The programme's approach
From knowledge to use.
4.0
“Limited user” on the IELTS scale: a candidate whose basic competence is limited to familiar situations.
IELTS Progress is the programme in which candidates at A2 level develop their grammar, their vocabulary and their ability to produce language across all four skills. On the IELTS scale, 4.0 is the threshold at which basic competence can be used with confidence in familiar situations; Progress aims to take you securely beyond it.
Sessions focus on using language rather than simply explaining it. Students read short texts, summarise what they hear, form their own sentences and begin giving longer answers when speaking. In this way, they move from recognising the structures they know to actually using them.
The four skills are developed in balance, since racing ahead in one while falling behind in another pulls the overall score down. In Progress, the second step of our original curriculum, classes of up to four and input from at least two specialists ensure that every student receives regular feedback on the language they produce.

Frequently asked questions
Your
questions.
If your question isn't here,
write to us directly.
01Is the programme just general English?
No. While developing your language foundation, it also builds the skill patterns and academic study habits that IELTS requires.
02Do I move up to Fundamental automatically?
No. We consider your end-of-programme test, your progress reports and your performance in the four skills together.
03Can I start Progress without completing Intro?
Yes. If the result of your free assessment points to A2 level, you can start directly with Progress.
04How many students are in each class?
Live online classes have no more than four students, and the programme starts even with one.
